Wedding Ring Workshops for Couples
There’s something incredibly special about wearing a wedding ring that you’ve made yourself. Our make your own wedding ring workshop in Plymouth gives couples and individuals the chance to create meaningful, handcrafted rings under the guidance of experienced goldsmiths — right here in the South West, serving Devon and Cornwall.

Can You Make Your Own Wedding Rings?
Yes — with the right guidance, tools and expertise, you absolutely can make your own wedding rings. In our Plymouth workshop, you’ll be guided step by step by professional goldsmiths, allowing you to create rings that are structurally sound, beautifully finished, and made to last a lifetime.
Unlike DIY kits or at-home attempts, a professional workshop gives you access to proper equipment, expert corrections where needed, and reassurance that your rings meet the standards expected of fine jewellery.
Curious if this is right for you?
Every workshop starts with a relaxed, no-obligation consultation. We’ll talk through designs, materials and what’s possible — and answer any questions you have before you decide.
What Is a Make Your Own Wedding Ring Workshop?
A make your own wedding ring workshop is a hands-on experience where you actively create your wedding rings from precious metal, rather than choosing a finished ring from a display.
After an initial consultation, you’ll attend a private workshop session in our Plymouth studio where you’ll shape, form, solder and finish your rings with expert guidance. The result is a pair of wedding rings that are deeply personal — not just chosen, but made.

Why Make Your Own Wedding Rings Together?
For many couples, making wedding rings together becomes one of the most meaningful parts of their wedding journey. It’s time set aside to slow down, focus on each other, and create something symbolic with your own hands.
Couples Making Each Other’s Wedding Rings
Some couples choose to make each other’s ring — a powerful and emotional experience where every hammer mark and polish is done with the other person in mind. It’s a quiet, intentional way to say “this is for you”.
This approach often becomes a cherished story couples love to tell long after the wedding day.
Making Your Own Ring as an Individual
Others prefer to make their own ring, focusing on the process and personal satisfaction of crafting something they’ll wear every day. Both approaches are welcome — they’re your rings, and the experience is tailored to what feels right for you.
Ready to create something that’s truly yours?
Whether you want to make each other’s rings or craft your own, we’ll guide you through every step in a calm, supportive workshop environment.
How Does a Wedding Ring Making Workshop Work?
Our workshops are designed to feel relaxed, unrushed and supportive, regardless of whether you’ve ever picked up a jewellery tool before.
Before the Workshop: Design, Materials & Consultation
Every workshop begins with a free consultation, either in person or remotely. This is where we discuss designs, metals, widths, finishes, recycling heirloom gold, and any optional extras such as stone setting or hallmarking.
Once details are agreed, we’ll confirm pricing and take a 20% deposit to secure your workshop date.
On the Day: Making, Finishing & Photographing Your Wedding Rings
On the day of your workshop, you’ll work at the bench with guidance from our goldsmiths as you shape and form your rings. You’ll learn traditional techniques such as forming, soldering, filing and finishing.
Most customers take their rings home on the same day. We’re also happy for you to bring a photographer if you’d like the experience documented.

After the Workshop: Hallmarking (If Required)
If you choose hallmarking or stone setting, your rings will remain with us after the workshop. Hallmarking is arranged through an official UK assay office, with standard or expedited turnaround available at the customer’s expense.
Once complete, your rings will be professionally checked and ready for collection.
Want to check dates or discuss options?
We can confirm availability, talk through pricing, and explain options like hallmarking, stone setting or recycling heirloom gold — all before you book.
What Happens During the Ring Making Process?
You’ll begin with carefully measured precious metal, which is shaped into a ring using traditional goldsmithing techniques. This includes forming the metal, soldering the join, refining the shape, and finishing the surface.
Throughout the process, our goldsmiths are on hand to guide you, make expert adjustments if required, and ensure the final ring is strong, comfortable and beautifully finished.
What Materials Can You Use to Make Your Wedding Rings?
We work exclusively with precious metals suitable for lifelong wear and professional jewellery standards.
Gold Wedding Ring Workshops (9ct, 18ct, 22ct)
Gold is our most popular choice for wedding rings. We offer 9ct, 18ct and 22ct gold in yellow, white and rose tones, allowing you to balance durability, colour and tradition.
Platinum Wedding Ring Workshops
Platinum is a naturally white, dense metal prized for its strength and longevity. It’s an excellent choice for those wanting a heavier feel and exceptional durability.
Using Recycled or Heirloom Gold
If you have sentimental gold jewellery, we can teach you how to melt it down and recycle it into your wedding rings. This option is available for gold only, as platinum requires much higher melting temperatures.

What Ring Styles Can You Make in a Workshop?
You’re not limited to one “standard” style — your rings are designed around you.
Court, D-Shape, Flat & Contemporary Profiles
Choose from classic court and D-shape profiles, flat bands, or more contemporary designs, depending on comfort and aesthetic preference.
What is the most popular wedding ring style?
Honestly, it's down to your personal preferences. For the most comfortable style that doesn't take long to get used to, court is the popular. D-shape is more traditional, whilst flat shape is the more modern choice. If you want that ultra modern look, combined with comfort, flat-court is a fantastic compromise.
Widths, Finishes & Textures
You’ll be able to select widths and finishes such as polished, satin, brushed or hammered textures, with samples available to guide your decision.
Shaped Wedding Rings to Fit Engagement Rings
Shaped wedding rings designed to sit flush against engagement rings can be created during the workshop, ensuring a perfect fit.
How Much Does a Make Your Own Wedding Ring Workshop Cost?
Our make your own wedding ring workshops start from £400 per couple, plus the cost of materials and any optional extras such as hallmarking or stone setting.
Final pricing is confirmed after your consultation, so everything is clear before you commit.
Are Handmade Wedding Rings More Expensive?
Not necessarily. While handmade rings can cost more than mass-produced alternatives, making your own rings often offers better value because you’re paying for materials, expertise and experience — not retail mark-ups.
Many couples feel the emotional value far outweighs the difference in cost.
How Long Does a Wedding Ring Workshop Take?
Workshops take place on the day and are designed to be relaxed rather than rushed. The exact length depends on your chosen designs and materials, which we’ll discuss during consultation.
